In addition to breaking research news, the 2010 AAAS Annual Meeting offers a full roster of social and networking opportunities for Newsroom registrants. Additional details will be forthcoming, but the following events will be part of the Newsroom events lineup:

Pre-Meeting Laboratory Tours for Journalists -- The Salk Institute for Biological Sciences and the University of California, San Diego will host a lunch and media tour on Wednesday, 17 Feb., in collaboration with the AAAS meeting. The tour will put small groups of journalists in cutting-edge laboratories devoted to neuroscience, next-generation scientific visualizations, chemical fingerprinting of atmospheric particulates, and climate research robotics. The media tour is for WORKING PRESS ONLY. Buses will depart from the San Diego Convention Center at noon. Slots for the tour are limited. International Reporters Reception -- AAAS will welcome international reporters with a special reception from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, 18 Feb. Sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L.L.C.

EurekAlert! Reception -- EurekAlert! will host a reception from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, 19 Feb. All Newsroom registrants are invited.

AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards -- There will be a gala reception and award ceremony on Friday, 19 Feb., to honor the winners of the 2009 AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards, endowed by The Kavli Foundation. The reception will be from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the San Diego Museum of Natural History.

Local Science Writers Party -- The San Diego Science Writers Association will host an evening party for Newsroom registrants on Sunday, 21 Feb. Details to come.

Euroscience Open Forum 2010 and World Conference of Science Journalists 2011 -- Representatives from ESOF2010 in Torino, Italy, 2-7 July, and WCSJ2011 will give an update on their meetings at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, 20 Feb., in the News Briefing Room.

Press Breakfasts -- The European Commission, the Helmholtz Association, and the Canada Excellence Research Chairs Program will be sponsoring press breakfasts at the meeting. Details to come.
