2009 Highlights

AAAS Annual Meeting

The theme of the 2010 AAAS Annual Meeting in San Diego will be "Bridging Science and Society." According to AAAS President Peter Agre, the theme calls on scientists and engineers "to make their work both beneficial and understandable, and on society to discover again the excitement and hope that research and its findings offer. It is a call to action that resonates around the world."

The multidisciplinary AAAS Annual Meeting will feature more than 150 scientific symposia; plenary and topical lectures; a poster competition; career fair; career workshops; and an exhibit hall. Details about the scientific program and speakers will be available at the AAAS Annual Meeting Web site:

Agre, a Nobel laureate and director of the Malaria Research Institute at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, will open the Meeting with the Presidentís Address at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, 18 February 2010.
