In addition to breaking research news, the 2011 AAAS Annual Meeting offers a full roster of social and networking opportunities for Newsroom registrants. Additional details will be forthcoming, but the following events will be part of the Newsroom events lineup: International Reporters Reception -- AAAS will welcome international reporters with a special reception from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, 17 February. EurekAlert! Reception -- EurekAlert! will host a reception from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, 18 February, in the East Overlook of the Washington Convention Center. All Newsroom registrants are invited. Food and refreshments will be served. Sponsorship by South African Square Kilometre Array Project. AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards -- There will be a gala reception and award ceremony on Friday, 18 February, to honor the winners of the 2010 AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards, endowed by The Kavli Foundation. The reception, for all Newsroom registrants, will be from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the National Museum of the American Indian. Shuttle buses will depart from the Washington Convention Center beginning at 6:45 p.m. Note: Newsroom badges required. DCSWA Party -- Join your colleagues for a party from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, 19 February, at the beautiful House of Sweden on the Potomac River waterfront in Georgetown. There will be great food, an open bar, a DJ and dancing. Bus transportation from the convention center will be available. See the flyer in your press kit for details. Organized by the D.C. Newsroom Social Hour: A Look Ahead to Vancouver -- There will be a wine-and-cheese reception at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, 20 February, sponsored by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council, the largest funder of natural sciences research in Canada. Vancouver, Canada will be the site of the 2012 AAAS Annual Meeting. The social hour, organized by the World Federation of Science Journalists, also celebrates the upcoming World Conference of Science Journalists in Cairo, Egypt, 27-29 June. Press Breakfasts – The European Commission, the Helmholtz Association and the "Think Canada" research partners will be sponsoring breakfasts. Details to come.
