The Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) is a groundbreaking initiative that rose from within the scientific community. As the name indicates, it was brought to life by Euroscience, a grass-roots scientific organisation founded in 1997 and now counting over 2,000 members in 40 countries. ESOF seeks to showcase European achievements right across the scientific spectrum and serves as an open forum for debate on science-related issues. Through ESOF, researchers and scientists, journalists, industry representatives and the general public are provided with an adequate platform for exchanging views and discussing the challenges and consequences of scientific developments around the world.
The forum is organised bi-annually in major European cities. It first took place in Stockholm in August 2004, where it attracted 1800 visitors from 67 countries. From July 15th to 19th 2006, Munich will host the second Euroscience Open Forum.
