OU to participate in the American Meteorological Society's Annual WeatherFest with table-top radar

Norman, Okla. – For the first time since its inception, the University of Oklahoma College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences will be represented at the American Meteorological Society's Ninth Annual WeatherFest, scheduled for Jan. 17 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

At OU's booth, thousands of WeatherFest guests will be able to learn about radar through a hands-on activity, Weather Radar in a Shoebox, and a working table-top radar that allows visitors to learn first-hand how weather radar works.

"The OU weather community is an international leader in radar technology, and being able to develop a table-top radar that can be safely operated is a major advancement in the way we teach math, physics and engineering to children," said Kevin Kloesel, associate dean of the OU College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences.

WeatherFest is an interactive four-hour science and weather fair that is free and open to the public. With nearly 60 interactive science exhibits, including experiments, educational information and career guides, it is an event for students, teachers and families.

The OU booth and table-top radar display will be located in space W24 in the WeatherFest exhibit hall.
