Tiny, paper-thin speakers pack big punch
Good quality stereo speakers are usually big, bulky and heavy, but people put up with their size to get sound with a BOOM. But now, scientists may have come up with a way to shrink speakers without sacrificing that sonic kick.

With perfect accuracy, Cornell chemical engineering car wins national competition
With their shoebox-size car powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, the 18-member undergraduate student team placed first at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers student-car competition in Philadelphia Nov. 16, beating out more than 30 other teams. The win propels them to the international competition in Montreal next August.

Improving global warming predictions
University of Iowa researchers and their colleagues have found a way to improve existing estimates of the amount of carbon absorbed by plants from the air, thereby improving the accuracy of global warming and land cover change estimates, according to a paper published in the Nov. 13 issue of the journal Science.
