Tom Kozel, University of Nevada, Reno (IMAGE) University of Nevada, Reno Caption Tom Kozel, professor of microbiology in the University of Nevada School of Medicine partnered with Sean Bauman, President and CEO of IMMY (Immuno-Mycologics) of Oklahoma to develop the new, rapid blood test known as the CrAg Lateral Flow Assay that can lead to early diagnosis of cryptococcosis, a leading cause of AIDS-related deaths in developing countries, by detecting the cryptoccocal antigen. The point-of-care product is a simple dipstick test requiring no equipment. It uses an antibody developed by Kozel in his lab on the Universitiy of Nevada, Reno, campus.
