Neuron Damage (IMAGE) Brown University Caption Using a technique that can image neurons in real time following the application of compressive strain, researchers from Brown University have shown that irreversible damage occurs in cells about six hours after a trauma in lab samples. The finding suggests that there might be a window of therapeutic intervention aimed at limiting the damage in people who have suffered a blow to the head. The image shows the formation of "blebs" in neural axons, a tell-tale marker of traumatic brain injury.
