The Silicon Photonic Chip (IMAGE) University of California - San Diego Caption The silicon photonic chip ( about 3 x 15 millimeters in size) consists of planar waveguide circuits in which photons are generated and the propagation of light is electronically controlled. The horizontal stripes of the chip correspond to different types of silicon photonics structures used to generate and control light; the features used in this experiment were located near the middle of the chip.
