But for pancreatic tumors, which are not well vascularized, it is not easy for chemotherapy drugs to reach these hard-to-access places via blood vessels. The new device, shown here, works by using electricity to send chemotherapy drugs directly to these tumors. The video demonstrates how a drug surrogate (blue dye) is transported from the implanted device through a tissue surrogate (agarose gel) to the counter electrode. The bubble formed on the counter electrode is an inert side product of the electrochemical reaction at the electrode interface.
