These ice wedges are remnants of much colder climate of the past and have survived underground for hundreds of thousands of years in the Arctic. The study, by Dr. Duane Froese and colleagues at University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada was titled "Ancient Permafrost and a Future, Warmer Arctic."
