Caption: In a project at Arizona State University and the Mayo Clinic Arizona, researchers are using Carpal Tunnel Syndrome as a research model to improve the understanding of how tactile, or touch, feedback is utilized by the central nervous system. In the project, researchers use a grip device (shown) to measure hand grasp forces. They put a mass at the bottom of the device to make the object tilt when lifted. The magnitude of the tilt informs the researchers about the patient’s ability to anticipate where the object will tilt, and therefore their ability to control forces before the object is lifted.
