Caption: Dr. Xiaodong Wang (center), professor of biochemistry and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, has been named the 2006 recipient of the $1 million Shaw Prize in Life Science and Medicine. Joining him at Wednesday's announcement were: Dr. Kern Wildenthal, president of UT Southwestern; Dr. Steven McKnight, chairman of biochemistry; Dr. Alfred Gilman, executive vice president for academic affairs, provost and dean of UT Southwestern Medical School; and Robert A. Estrada, Regent of The University of Texas System. Dr. Wang will receive the international award from the Hong Kong-based Shaw Prize Foundation at a September ceremony.
