Caption: Students gather in an elevated carbon dioxide ring at the SoyFACE Global Change Research Facility located at the University of Illinois in Urbana. Within this 20-meter ring, the carbon dioxide concentration is raised from the current atmospheric level of 385 ppm to the level predicted for the middle of this century of 585 ppm by releasing pure carbon dioxide through laser drilled holes in the green pipes surrounding the crop.
