Destruction of collecting lymphatic vessels with PDT in the pig. This video shows two large collecting lymphatic vessels that drain to lymph nodes in the pelvic region of a pig. The vessels and lymph nodes were visualized by injection of a contrast agent into the lymphatic vessels of both lower limbs. The vessel on the right underwent photodynamic therapy, which led to the destruction of the vessel, as identified by leakage of the contrast agent in the distal part of the lymphatic vessel. This video was narrated by Nadia Ramlagan of the Science Press Package team. This video relates to an article that appeared in the Feb. 9, 2011, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Tuomas Tammela at Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland in Helsinki, Finland, and colleagues, was titled, "Photodynamic Ablation of Lymphatic Vessels and Intralymphatic Cancer Cells Prevents Metastasis."
