Caption: The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument that flies onboard NASA's Aqua satellite captured an image of smoke and fires burning in central Russia and Siberia on April 14 at 07:30 UTC (2:30 a.m. EDT). Many of the fires seemed to be buring to the north and northeast of Omsk (labeled in white), a city located in the southeastern part of Siberia (on the far left side of the satellite image). The multiple red pixels indicate fires. MODIS also indicated a couple of fires burning near Kazakstan's (lower left) northeastern border (red).
