Caption: Kevin Burke, geology professor with the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Houston, has been awarded the 2007 Penrose Medal by the Geological Society of America. Geologists from around the world are considered for the Penrose Medal, which is given for outstanding achievements in original research. Previous winners include professors from Stanford University, the University of Oxford and fellow UH professor John Dewey.
