Caption: At left, a normal mouse retina; at right, abnormal blood vessel growth in a mouse with retinopathy. An omega-3-based diet dampened this abnormal growth in a mouse model of retinopathy, a disease affecting many premature newborns as well as adults with diabetes. Unchecked, this vessel growth can cause retinal detachment and blindness.
