Caption: Kimberlite volcanoes, the primary source of diamonds, contain pelletal lapilli -- enigmatic magma-coated clasts. These are generated deep in the volcanic vent by a granulation process analogous to that commonly used in coating chocolates, drugs and fertilizers.
