Uncovering Wheat's Domestication

Caption: A spike of wild emmer wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. dicoccoides), the progenitor of the cultivated tetraploid and hexaploid wheats, discovered 101 years ago in northen Israel. This image relates to an article that appeared in the June 29, 2007, issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Jorge Dubcovsky and colleagues at University of California, Davis in Davis, Calif., was titled "Genome Plasticity a Key Factor in the Success of Polyploid Wheat Under Domestication."
