Sea Anemone Genome Surprises

Caption: Ready to Eat: The tentacles and body wall of the Nematostella are thickly populated with stinging cells. These cnidocytes are sensory cells that fire to assist with prey capture. This image relates to an article that appeared in the July 6, 2007 issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, Dr. Nicholas Putnam and colleagues at Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute in Walnut Creek, CA, was titled "Sea Anemone Genome Reveals Ancestral Eumetazoan Gene Repertoire and Genomic Organization."
