Caption: This is a fluorescence view of a histological section of an obstructed pulmonary artery, which shows the local accumulation of fluorescent nanoparticles within the emboli of a mouse. The nanoparticles were specifically targeted to occlusion sites with the Shear-Activated Nanotherapeutic described in the report by Korin et al.This image relates to a paper that appeared in the July 5, 2012, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by N. Korin at Harvard University in Boston, Mass., and colleagues was titled, "Shear-Activated Nanotherapeutics for Drug Targeting to Obstructed Blood Vessels."
