Caption: This infrared image of Hurricane Leslie was taken on Sept. 5 at 1:11 pm EDT by the AIRS instrument that flies aboard NASA's Aqua satellite. The image was taken just before Leslie intensified into a hurricane. The strongest thunderstorms and coldest cloud top temperatures (purple) around the center of circulation and in a wide band of thunderstorms to the east and south of the center.
