Caption: Slices from the brains of mice at different times, following treatment with MDA, METH or the saline control solution. The dark colouring in all saline-exposed brains indicates a high density of dopaminergic nerve terminals. The lighter colouring in the brains of mice exposed to either MDA or METH indicates a substantial loss of nerve terminals within 18 hours of drug treatment, and which lasted for at least one week.
