Black Glass in New Martian Meteorite (1 of 12)

Caption: This is the 1.1 kg stone of the Tissint Martian meteorite at the Natural History Museum, London. The stone has a glossy black fusion crust. The fresh interior shows the large yellow/green olivine macrocrysts and pockets of black glass which are characteristic of this shergottite. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the October 11, 2012, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by Hasnaa Chennaoui Aoudjehane at Hassan II University Casablanca in Casablanca, Morocco, and colleagues was titled, “Tissint Martian Meteorite: A Fresh Look at the Interior, Surface and Atmosphere of Mars.”
