Gene Repeat Helps Soybeans Resist Disease (2 of 4)

Caption: This shows soybean cyst nematodes infesting transgenic soybean root. The root and nematodes stained with acid fuchsin to allow visualization. Soybeans that carry multiple copies of the Rhg1 gene cluster are resistant to nematode infection. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Oct. 11, 2012, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by David Cook at University of Wisconsin, Madison in Madison, Wis., and colleagues was titled, “Copy Number Variation of Multiple Genes at Rhg1 Mediates Nematode Resistance in Soybean.”
