Caption: This AFM micrographic of 2-D S-layers assembled on mica shows two different pathways to crystalization, one in which the domans are 2-3 nanometers taller (white dotted circles)than the other. Differences in the two height profiles, which were measured along the horizontal dotted black lines, were the result of kinetic trapping.
