Caption: Colpoda is a type of protozoa that feeds on a variety of bacteria. This image shows a Colpoda beginning to form a cyst after having eaten red and green tagged bacteria. Two University of Connecticut scientists are exploring ways to use protozoa like Colpoda to better distribute beneficial bacteria around plant roots in order to increase crop yields in developing countries.
