More Than a Molecular Switch? (1 of 3)

Caption: Researchers successfully switched the position of two internal hydrogen atoms on the inner cavity of a free-based napthalocyanine molecule at cryogenic temperatures using a scanning tunneling microscope tip, creating a single-molecule switch. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Aug. 31, 2007, issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Peter Liljeroth and colleagues of International Business Machines Corporation, Zurich Research Laboratory in Rüschlikon, Switzerland, was titled "Current-Induced Hydrogen Tautomerization and Conductance Switching of Naphthalocyanine Molecules."
