Depletion of ATP in E. coli

Caption: The depletion of ATP in cells of the bacterium Escherichia coli causes them to transition to a filamentous state and form dense lipid structures known as endoliposomes. The structures can be clearly observed in these transmission electron micrographs of increasing magnification.
