Early Vaccine Boosts Immune Response to HIV (4 of 5)

Caption: This image shows HLA-DR staining in permeabilized MD-DC. Pulsing of MD-DC with inactivated HIV-1 in the presence of anti-HIV-1 IgG antibodies as found in inactivated autologous serum, favors the activation of MD-DC as indicated by the redistribution of intracellular HLA-DR to the membrane. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Jan. 2, 2013, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by F. García at University of Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain, and colleagues was titled, "A Dendritic Cell-Based Vaccine Elicits T Cell Responses Associated with Control of HIV-1 Replication."
