Caption: An important woodworking tool, this hafted adze shows how the stone adze blade was fitted into the handle and lashed with coconut fiber cordage. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Sept. 28, 2007,issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Kenneth D. Collerson and Dr. Marshall I. Weisler at University of Queensland in St. Lucia, Australia, was titled "tone Adze Compositions and the Extent of Ancient Polynesian Voyaging and Trade."
