Caption: A male collared flycatcher feeding chicks. In the hybrid zone between collared and pied flycatchers, females prefer to mate with males of their own species due to genes inherited from their father and not due to his looks. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Oct. 5, 2007, issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Stein A. Sæther at Netherlands Institute of Ecology in Heteren, Netherlands, was titled "Sex Chromosome-Linked Species Recognition and Evolution of Reproductive Isolation in Flycatchers."
