Neanderthals May Have Been Redheads

Caption: Some Neanderthals may have had variations in pigmentation that hypothetically could have produced pale skin and red hair similar to that of some modern humans, a European research team has found. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Oct. 26, 2007 issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Carles Lalueza-Fox and colleagues at Universitat de Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain, was titled 'A Melanocortin 1 Receptor Allele Suggests Varying Pigmentation Among Neanderthals.'
