No Pasta Pomodoro Without This Plant Gene

Caption: Bumblebee (Bombus impatiens) pollinating the flower of a wild tomato species. Cross pollination is aided by flowers producing elongated styles. Isolation of the gene underlying the elongation process is reported in the paper. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Oct. 26, 2007 issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Chen Kai-Yi and colleagues at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, was titled 'Changes in Regulation of a Transcription Factor Lead to Autogamy in Cultivated Tomatoes.'
