Glaciers and the Rising Tide (12 of 15) (image) American Association for the Advancement of Science Share Print E-Mail Caption This image shows some local (or peripheral) glaciers and ice caps in eastern Greenland in the foreground and the ice sheet with its outlet glaciers (upper right) in the background. Thanks to a new glacier inventory for all of Greenland, it was for the first time possible to determine the sea-level rise contribution from the local glaciers and ice caps on Greenland separately from those of the ice sheet. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the May 17, 2013, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Alex S. Gardner at Clark University in Worcester, MA, and colleagues was titled, "A Reconciled Estimate of Glacier Contributions to Sea Level Rise: 2003 to 2009."
