Caption: These transgenic mice produce higher than normal levels of menin, which suppresses the production of insulin-producing cells during pregnancy. The pregnant mouse on the right has some of the hallmark symptoms of diabetes. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Nov. 2, 2007, issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr S.K. Karnik and colleagues at Stanford University in Stanford, Calif., was titled "Menin Controls Growth of Pancreatic ß-Cells in Pregnant Mice and Promotes Gestational Diabetes."
