Journey to the Center of the Cell (2 of 2)

Caption: When science meets art: this work is part of the Designs for Life project (http://www.designsforlifeproject.co.uk), which seeks to explore the visualization of cell and gene research through the analysis of a series of image production collaborations. This image was created by photographing printouts of time-lapse fluorescent micrographs of HeLa cells (induced to undergo programmed cell death) with a standard SLR camera, developing the negatives and then using unorthodox techniques to achieve the "aged look" of the film. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Nov. 30, 2007, issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Laura Trinkle-Mulcahy and colleagues at University of Dundee in Dundee, UK, was titled "Toward a High-Resolution View of Nuclear Dynamics."
