Caption: The AIRS instrument aboard NASA's Aqua satellite took this infrared image of Typhoon Trami's landfall on Aug. 21 at 1:59 p.m. EDT. It showed that the most powerful thunderstorms (purple) were tightly wrapped around the storm's center during landfall.
