Gorge of the Nile

Caption: Rivaling North America's Grand Canyon of the Colorado River, the Gorge of the Nile shown here was formed as the Blue Nile River cut downward into the Ethiopian Plateau. University of Utah researchers study the timing of that erosion to learn more about the links between human evolution and changes in climate and vegetation caused by mountain-building in East Africa during the past 7 million years.
