SUMO-1 Gene Rescues Hearts with Broken Plumbing Arms (1 of 3)

Caption: This figure illustrates how AAV vectors are delivered through the coronary arteries of the failing heart inducing SUMO-1 expression in the heart which in turns enhances the activity of SERCA2a and improves the function of the heart. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the November 13, 2013, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by Dr. L. Tilemann at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, N.Y., and colleagues was titled, "SUMO-1 Gene Transfer Improves Cardiac Function in a Large-Animal Model of Heart Failure."
