Caption: This video, narated by co-author Dr. Hajar, depicts the injection of AAV1 vectors into the coronary arteries of a failing heart. The vectors are then taken up by cardiac cells and the gene expresses the protein, which improves heart function. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the November 13, 2013, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by Dr. L. Tilemann at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, N.Y., and colleagues was titled, SUMO-1 Gene Transfer Improves Cardiac Function in a Large-Animal Model of Heart Failure.
