Why Tumors that Return Are So Tough (2 of 3)

Caption: Metabolic images from a patient who had an original diagnosis of low-grade astrocytoma that transformed to a high-grade glioma (GBM) at recurrence are shown. The image shows that tissue within the same tumor mass can be low-grade (blue/green) or high-grade (yellow/red), and these regions may have different types of genetic mutations. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the 12 Dec., 2013, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by Brett E. Johnson at the University of California, San Francisco in San Francisco, CA, and colleagues was titled, "Mutational Analysis Reveals the Origin and Therapy-Driven Evolution of Recurrent Glioma."
