Caption: A humpback whale surfaces under the platform of an oil platform in the waters of Gabon. According to data gathered by the researchers from satellite-tagged whales, humpbacks traveling north from and remaining in the coastal waters of Gabon spent an estimated 41 percent of their time in the presence of oil and gas platforms.
