Transgenic vs. Nontransgenic

Caption: The papaya ringspot virus (PRSV) interferes with the plant's ability to photosynthesize. The transgenic papaya at the center of this field (darker, rectangular patch of green) are surrounded by non-transgenic plants. The transgenic plants contain a gene for a PRSV coat protein, which makes them resistant to the virus. The nontransgenic plants are stunted, and often produce deformed, inedible fruit.
