Caption: Photos of the Zumaia section in northern Spain. This section contains the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary and consists of late Paleocene marine sediments characterized by a cyclic alternation of whitish to reddish limestones and darker reddish marl layers. This image relates to an article that appeared in the April 25, 2008, issue of the journal Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Klaudia Kuiper and colleagues at Utrecht University in Utrecht, Netherlands, was titled "Synchronizing Rock Clocks of Earth History."
