Caption: A typical field site at Hopkins forest, Wiliamstown, Mass. Two quaking aspen trees show where researchers chiseled through the bark to expose the wood of the tree (H-shaped wounds. Note that the published data are for square wounds, but the protocol was otherwise the same). This image relates to an article that appeared in the June 20, 2008 issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Eric Kramer and colleagues at Bard College at Simon's Rock in Great Barrington, MA, was titled "Auxin Gradients Are Associated with Polarity Changes in Trees."
