Caption: Example of a high-resolution tsunami simulation from the AWI simulation system. The figure shows arrival of the wave in Banda Aceh region, corresponding to Dec. 26, 2004. The situation after approx. 35 minutes and envisioned from a South-Western viewpoint towards the Northern tip of Sumatra reveals that a first wave has made its way on land, while a second -- even higher -- wave is forming at the shore. Inundation takes place from both the North and the West. Blue color indicates the water level (lighter means higher) and rainbow colors indicate the terrain height.
