Science coverThe AAAS Office of Public Programs works closely with public information officers to coordinate news announcements and media efforts for research forthcoming in Science, the weekly journal of AAAS, the science society. If you plan to promote an upcoming Science paper by scientists at your institution, please notify us in advance. We can link to your news releases and visuals, for the convenience of the media, and mention the availability of these materials in the weekly Science Press Package. (Our embargo policies apply to all related materials.)

Fast Facts about SCIENCE and the Press Package

cover2Founded in 1880 by Thomas A. Edison, Science has been the official journal of AAAS since 1900. Today, Science has the largest paid circulation of any peer-reviewed, general science journal in the world, with an estimated total readership of one million.

* Science is an editorially independent, weekly general science journal whose articles consistently rank among the world’s most often cited research reports, as monitored by the Institute for Scientific Information.

* More than 10,000 research papers were submitted to Science in 2003. Approximately 8 percent were accepted.

* Although Science draws about 60 percent of its materials from the biological sciences and about 40 percent from the physical sciences, the journal increasingly publishes interdisciplinary research at the crossroads of these two disciplines.

* 35 to 40 percent of the research papers published in Science feature corresponding authors from outside the United
States.

* Approximately 4000 journalists worldwide are registered for the Science Press Package
