Results of an important national study examining effects of the non-caloric fat substitute olestra will be announced Monday (Feb. 15) at a news conference at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. The briefing will begin at 1:15 p.m. in Room G-7 of the Burnett-Womack Building. Note: This story is embargoed until 5 p.m. EST Monday in keeping with the embargo established by the journal Annals of Internal Medicine, which will publish the findings Tuesday.
Dr. Robert Sandler, professor of medicine at the UNC-CH School of Public Health, will describe the study for which he was principal investigator. Sandler also is co-director of UNC-CH's Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease.
Reporters can park in the Health Affairs Parking Deck on Manning Drive across from UNC Hospitals. Videographers can unload equipment in front of Burnett-Womack, which is to the left of the hospital's main entrance, before moving vehicles to the parking deck.
